New Trailer For 'Criminal Minds: Evolution' Released; Revival Premieres Thanksgiving Day

After more than two and a half years, Criminal Minds is almost ready to resume! In February 2020, the CBS police procedural concluded a 15-season run. Just a year later, it was reported that a revival was in early development for what was about to be rebranded as Paramount+. It wasn’t until this past February that the project was confirmed to be still alive, following comments by series star Paget Brewster in July 2021 where she indicated development had stopped. The series was officially ordered in July 2022. In September, the show’s new title was revealed, Criminal Minds: Evolution, the first photos were released, and it received a Thanksgiving premiere date. In October, it got its poster, and on Friday, November 4, we got the trailer.

In it, the Behavior Analysis Unit goes up against “their greatest threat yet”, Elias Voit (played by Zach Gilford), an “UnSub”, their term for the unidentified person whose crimes are being investigated. Voit spent the pandemic fostering a network of other serial killers that started hunting as the world began to reopen from lockdowns. Being an entire system of killers, it’s not going to be resolved in just a single episode. Indeed, that’s the 10-episode season’s storyline. Its Thanksgiving premiere will be two episodes, with the first also getting a linear CBS airing that night. As Thursdays are the service’s typical day for new episodes, those for Criminal Minds: Evolution will continue to roll out weekly until December 15. It then takes a midseason and holiday break until January 12, with five more weekly releases until the finale on February 9.

Upon Evolution’s November 24 premiere, NCIS, CSI, and Criminal Minds would all be active franchises again for the first time since 2016’s cancellation of CSI: Cyber, as the original CSI has had its sequel series CSI: Vegas premiere in October 2021. This series. while similarly conceived as a limited series, essentially functions as the sixteenth season of the original. Most of the regulars of the previous season return: Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, Joe Mantegna as David Rossi, A.J. Cook as JJ, Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia, Aisha Tyler as Tara Lewis and Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez. Original cast member Matthew Gray Gubler, who played Spencer Reid, and season 13 addition Daniel Henney, who played Matt Simmons, are not returning. Will you be watching?
