'September 5' Covers Its Streaming Date

Have a few Munich knacks. Paramount announced on Monday morning that Best Original Screenplay Oscar and Critics Choice nominee September 5 is headed to Paramount+ tomorrow, Tuesday February 25 in the United States and Canada. International rollout will, as usual, be revealed at a later date, but it never quite gets the coverage the domestic arrival to the platform does. The film was first given a limited release on December 13, and considering Sony Pictures ’s Saturday Night ’s limited release on September 27 was what brought it to Sony’s typical 120-day window for its films when it landed on Netflix on January 25 despite a wide release on October 11, it’s clearly the best way to gauge speed. And for Paramount’s 2024 slate, it’s actually a pretty slow 74 days, as even Sonic the Hedgehog 3 demonstrated a week ago that everyone else tends to be around 60 days, with a few films going 53. Sonic 3  opened a week later on December 20 and arrived on February 18. September 5 ...

'Knuckles' Sonic Spinoff Adds Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, Cary Elwes And More

The Knuckles the Echidna-centric spinoff of Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog films, simply called Knuckles, already had some pretty good star power bringing over Idris Elba as Knuckles and Adam Pally as Wade Whipple. Kid Cudi being part of it was intriguing too, but here, the level of star power is massive: Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, Cary Elwes, Stockard Channing, & Rob Huebel have joined the cast of the Paramount+ original series from Paramount Pictures and SEGA.

Character details are so under wraps that not even the capacity of the respective roles is known. Who's recurring, like Cudi, Ellie Taylor, Edi Patterson, and Julian Barratt? Who's just a simple guest star, like the returning Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, or Rory McCann? It's very probable that most of these are single-episode guest appearances. In his series, Knuckles is on a journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Green Hills deputy sheriff Whipple in the ways of the Echidna warrior.

Lloyd is best known as Doctor Emmett Brown in the Back To The Future trilogy and subsequent appearances, breaking out as Rev. Jim Ignatowski on the sitcom Taxi, appearing in Clue, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Suburban Commando, Angels in the Outfield and the '90s Addams Family films, to name a few. Most recently he appeared in Spirit Halloween: The Movie, The Tender Bar directed by George Clooney, and Tankhouse. On television, he's been the voice of The Hacker on Cyberchase since its 2002 debut and voiced the Woodsman in the Cartoon Network miniseries Over the Garden Wall. He's made numerous guest appearances, including a recent turn as Commissioner Helgait on The Mandalorian.

Scheer starred in TV series like The League and Showtime’s Black Monday, as well as Human Giant and NTSF:SD:SUV. His next film is Netflix's Family Leave with Jennifer Garner. Other screen credits include Curb Your EnthusiasmVeepThe Good PlaceFresh Off the Boat, Big City Greens, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and many more. His film credits include Daddy's Home and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Elwes’ notable film credits include Oscar-winners Glory and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, as well as The Princess Bride, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Days of Thunder, Hot Shots, Ella Enchanted, and more. Coming up, he has Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One which releases on July 12, and Rebel Moon, directed by Zack Snyder. In television, he recently recurred in the third seasons of Stranger Things and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Channing is a 13-time Emmy nominee, winning three, including for her portrayal of Abby Bartlet on The West Wing and Julie Shepard in The Matthew Shepard Story. Many of her nominations were for miniseries and TV movies. Her film credits include Rizzo in GreasePractical Magic, The First Wives Club, and Six Degrees of Separation. She recurred as Veronica Loy on The Good Wife from 2012 to 2016.

Huebel also appeared on both Human Giant and The League but starred in a different Adult Swim series, Childrens' Hospital. He also recurred in The Sex Lives of College Girls and Transparent and starred in last year's P+ original Snow Day remake.

Following on from last year's Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Knuckles takes place between it and the next film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, releasing this fall before the film premieres on December 20, 2024.
