'The Daily Show' Next Guest Hosts Revealed

The Daily Show returns Monday, but a new permanent host won’t be installed until the new year, so that means, as promised, more guest hosts! And correspondents as hosts of course. And now Comedy Central has announced the batch that will take the show through the end of November.

On return week which covers October 16 to 19, correspondent Michael Kosta takes over the desk. He’s the only active correspondent to get a week solo at the desk, as will be seen. Unfortunately, Dulce Sloan will not be getting a full week after her week was cut short by the start of the Writers Guild of America strike that caused and allowed the end of the show’s hiatus. While Ronny Chieng and Lewis Black were also scheduled for their own weeks pre-strike, that’s not the case anymore.

October is finished by two outside talents that did manage to be rescheduled. The week of October 23 will be anchored by Desus Nice, formerly of Desus & Mero, who hosted shows on Viceland and Showtime by their duo name. Charlamagne tha God, a radio host who previously hosted a Comedy Central talk show known as Tha God’s Honest Truth in its first season and Hell of A Week with Charlamagne tha God in its second and final (cancelled in May after last airing in December), takes the desk on the week of October 30.

November 6 starts a two week stretch of encore gigs from Sarah Silverman, who previously hosted the week of February 13 (post-Super Bowl), and Leslie Jones, who was the very first guest host and began the carousel the week of January 17. She hosts the week of November 13 and is thought to have been one of the names on a Paramount shortlist for the permanent gig, although some sources have warned that she might not want it full-time. The week of November 20 doesn’t bother bringing in outsiders presumably because of the Thanksgiving holiday, and instead will hold a News Team Takeover with Sloan, Kosta, Chieng, Black, Desi Lydic, and Jordan Klepper, but not Roy Wood Jr., who announced his departure last week. Lydic and Klepper got their shots in the stretch that included Wood and Sloan’s weeks. For the week of November 27, final guest host is another former correspondent, Michelle Wolf, who is also rescheduling a pre-strike booking.

As for after, it is likely that the show will have episodes through December 14. as it is the equivalent week where they’ve ended the year before Christmas except for last year when it ended on previous host Trevor Noah’s final episode on December 8. Reportedly these weeks will be tag teams from within the correspondent pool. While it’s possible that there could be more in January, they want someone in place for 2024, so it seems they want their permanent host in time for the new year. Network executives are said to be eager to study audience research and get another look at how a few personalities handle the job. The other pre-strike guest hosts were Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, Chelsea Handler, Marlon Wayans, Kal Penn, Al Franken, John Leguizamo, and reported frontrunner Hasan Minhaj.
