It’s almost time to rise from the fall as the season 2 premiere of Paramount+’sHaloseries quickly approaches. The streamer released not only the official trailer earlier in the month, but a second, titled “Fight As One” during Sunday’s AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. It mimics them releasing the official trailer for the final season ofStar Trek: Picardat the same event last year.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer helps drive home the distinction of the series timeline compared to the games it is based on. The battle for Reach will be a major plot point, suggesting that the series takes place before events the games had happen in Halo: Combat Evolved. The Covenant's destruction of Reach would then be part of Halo: Reach. As an adaptation, streamlining and changes are expected, and strongly suggested by this trailer. Master Chief will journey for the ring prior to Reach's destruction, as humanity and its Spartan soldiers make what’s described as a “final stand”. The trailer shows that it will have its own corridor sequences that were beloved in the games.
The “Fight As One” trailer shares focus between Pablo Schreiber’s Master Chief and Joseph Morgan's James Ackerson. No one is on the same page as to how to deal with the looming arrival of the Covenant and their terror, and it’s Ackerson who has to prepare the people and make the “hard choices” in doing so. Chief pierces through Ackerson’s assurances asking whether the people can truly be kept safe.
The season’s official logline reads
In season two, Master Chief John-117 (Pablo Schreiber) leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. In the wake of a shocking event on a desolate planet, John cannot shake the feeling that his war is about to change and risks everything to prove what no one else will believe – that the Covenant is preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation, or its extinction: the Halo.
Based on the Xbox game franchise that began in 2001, the Halo series also stars Californication‘s Natascha McElhone as Dr. Halsey, Jen Taylor reprising Cortana, her role from the games, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac, Olive Gray, Yerin Ha, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Charlie Murphy, and Danny Sapani. In addition, there’s Laera, played by Fiona O’Shaughnessy, is Soren’s confidant, wife and partner in crime, and their son Kessler, is played by Tylan Bailey. Season 1 seems to air Mondays on Paramount+ with Showtime, and airings will seemingly be emphasized more in the early days of season 2’s February 8 premiere on Paramount+.
