With season 2 already filming, Naveen Andrews has joined the cast of Paramount+’s Australian original drama Last King of the Cross.
Continuing the story of Sydney nightclub kingpin John Ibrahim, played by Lincoln Younes, and his brother Sam, played by Claude Jabbour, season 2 has John set his sights on ensnaring Oxford Street, Sydney’s nightclub empire. However, as the season’s antagonist, it seems Andrews’s character Ray Kinnock will stand in his way, determined to either keep him out or take him down.
Andrews is best known as Sayid Jarrah on the ABC drama Lost, winning a SAG Award with the rest of the ensemble as those awards tend to be, with subsequent TV roles including as Jafar in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Jonas Maliki on Sense8, and “Sunny” Balwani in the Hulu miniseries The Dropout, with a recurring role on The Cleaning Lady. His film roles include The English Patient and Mighty Joe Young. Mark Fennessy from producer Helium Pictures calls Andrews “highly respected” and “celebrated” as an actor, who has “captivated audiences” with his aforementioned performances and is considered a “massive addition”, adding a “delicious mix of cool and class to a diverse and multi-talented cast”.
Paramount Australia’s Creative Advisor for their Drama series, Rick Maier said: “Going up against the Ibrahims on screen is no easy task. Naveen promises to give Lincoln and Claude a run for their money. He’s a brilliant actor, and a fantastic inclusion for series two.” He’s not the only cast addition for Last King of the Cross’s second season, as Luke Arnold and Matuse join as Dean Taylor and Benny respectively, “two new drug lords hell-bent on bringing their booming trade into John’s clubs”. Maier continued to say “The addition of Luke and Matuse, only add weight to the feeling that this is the hottest ticket in town for actors keen to join this red hot ensemble. They will be terrific.”
Last King of The Cross comes from Helium Pictures while Cineflix Rights is the exclusive international distribution partner. Paramount Australia is a major production investor in association with Screen Australia and is financed with support from Screen NSW through the Made in NSW fund and Fulcrum Media Finance.
