'Tulsa King' Spinoff 'NOLA King' With Samuel L. Jackson In The Works

Saaaaaalutations! If you thought Paramount+ nabbing Sylvester Stallone to star in Tulsa King said something about what television had become, hear this out: Tulsa King has a New Orleans-set spinoff in development, aptly titled NOLA King , and it’s set to star Samuel L. Jackson. Exact details of NOLA King are under wraps, but Jackson’s character,   Russell Lee Washington Jr.,   has been described as similar to Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi. The series would be set up by a recurring arc in Tulsa King ’s third season, currently in production in Oklahoma and Atlanta, which explains why Variety ’s  telling didn’t call the single appearance they implied as a backdoor pilot. Jackson is expected to film his episodes in July, with production on NOLA King looking at a February start. 'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Casts 3 Cadets

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has brought its first cadets to campus. The upcoming Paramount+ series, the first new Star Trek series to be produced since the end of Picard and the impending end of Lower Decks, has cast Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, and George Hawkins as the first three known students.

No character names or descriptions have been given. The trio are the first students, but the only staff member known currently is the chancellor and captain played by Holly Hunter. It is unclear if they make the entirety of the series’s lead cadets. Paul Giamatti’s villain doesn’t have a connection to the Academy, the connection is to one of the cadets. Without those cadets’ names or character biographies, we don’t know yet which one he has the connection to.

However big the group of cadets the series follows, the official logline describes that they “come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”

Brooks is an accomplished dancer, performing with artists like Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X. Her acting credits include The Prom, On My Block, and the CBS sitcom How We Roll. Her next films are My Old Ass and the period comedy Feeling Randy. Shepard marks something of a return to the streamer, having previously starred in Wolf Pack. She previously appeared in series such as The Wilds, Orange Is the New Black, and Grace and Frankie. Hawkins most recently appeared in the ITV series Tell Me Everything and also starred in the films Boiling Point and Gassed Up.

Production will begin in Toronto in the coming months. Shepherd of this era of the franchise Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Gaia Violo executive produces with them and writes the premiere. Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber also executive produce. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
