'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' is Coming! Check Out The New Image and Teaser

It’s 2023 and Grease is apparently still the word. Marketing for the prequel series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies has begun, in the lead-up for its premiere on Paramount+ this year.

It started with an image released to Entertainment Weekly. Being a prequel set in 1954, Frenchie, Jan, Marty, and Rizzo aren’t here. Instead, the quartet is Jane Facciano played by Marisa Davila, Nancy Nakagawa played by Tricia Fukuhara, Olivia Valdovinos played by Cheyenne Wells and Cynthia Zdunowski played by Ari Notartomaso. Davila calls Jane something of a nerd, making the comparison to Jan. The photo has the four girls mostly turned away from the camera, showing off their Pink Ladies jackets. The design of the jackets was a major question going into production. Davila mentions she tried on multiple prototypes as the costume designer tried to hone in on a specific design. The chosen final design was what they felt was most like a forerunner to the design from the original film.

On New Year’s Day, Paramount+ tweeted a teaser for the series, stating “Witness the rise.”. It's very brief, no footage, and sees a Pink Ladies Jacket being stitched together. It’s been quite the road for Rise of the Pink Ladies, as WarnerMedia had originally ordered it in October 2019 as Grease: Rydell High, intending it for HBO Max. It gained its current title in May 2020 with an intended 2021 premiere date. However by October, the service chose not to move forward with it, and the series quickly found a new home at Paramount+, with a 10-episode order made in July 2021. Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies arrives on Paramount+ in the early portion of this new year. The teaser is available below.
