'September 5' Covers Its Streaming Date

Have a few Munich knacks. Paramount announced on Monday morning that Best Original Screenplay Oscar and Critics Choice nominee September 5 is headed to Paramount+ tomorrow, Tuesday February 25 in the United States and Canada. International rollout will, as usual, be revealed at a later date, but it never quite gets the coverage the domestic arrival to the platform does. The film was first given a limited release on December 13, and considering Sony Pictures ’s Saturday Night ’s limited release on September 27 was what brought it to Sony’s typical 120-day window for its films when it landed on Netflix on January 25 despite a wide release on October 11, it’s clearly the best way to gauge speed. And for Paramount’s 2024 slate, it’s actually a pretty slow 74 days, as even Sonic the Hedgehog 3 demonstrated a week ago that everyone else tends to be around 60 days, with a few films going 53. Sonic 3  opened a week later on December 20 and arrived on February 18. September 5 ...

Paramount+ Has Acquired A New Milli Vanilli Documentary

The next Paramount+ original documentary will be about the notorious '90s R&B group Milli Vanilli, following its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. The streamer will be releasing it in the United States as well as Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. WME was screening for buyers earlier this year.

Titled after the duo, which consists of Fabrice Morvan and Robert Pilatus, Milli Vanilli tells the story of them becoming fast friends when they were kids growing up in Germany. Rob came from a broken home while Fabrice escaped an abusive one. Together, they shared a similar experience of growing up, as well as a mutual wish to become famous. In a few short years, that would come true. Their first album went platinum six times in 1989, containing the hit single "Girl You Know It’s True" which sold over 30 million copies globally, leading to being one of the most well known duos by 1990. However, their meteoric rise to fame would all come crumbling down. That year, they were forced to return their Grammy Award for Best New Artist after it was revealed that they didn’t sing vocals on any of their records. And then it further spiraled, and there's always more to go into.

Luke Korem directs the documentary. Hanif Abdurraqib and Kim Marlowe are the executive producers. In discussing the documentary, he stated “For over 30 years, the story of Milli Vanilli – in particular Rob and Fab – has been reduced to sensational headlines,” continuing “With this documentary, we pull back the curtain on pop music. Featuring interviews with the real singers, record executives, the producer mastermind behind the deception, and exclusive interviews with Rob and Fab, we unveil the truth of this complex, exciting, and dramatic story. I’m thrilled that Paramount+ shares our vision and will bring this film to audiences around the world.”

Fabrice Morvan expressed something of feelings of vindication and closure in his statement, grateful for how thorough it is. “Finally – the true story of Milli Vanilli has been told. I’m thankful Luke Korem and his team went to the lengths that they did. The journey I returned to during the filming of this documentary didn’t leave any stone unturned. At last, I can close this chapter in peace… Get ready to take a walk in our steel-toe boots.”

Korem is also a producer on the documentary, with Bradley Jackson, MRC, Keep On Running Pictures and MTV Entertainment Studios.
