Showtime Announces 'The Chi' Season 6 Premiere Date With New Teaser

The Chi will be back very very soon.

Showtime has announced the sixth season of its hit drama will follow a similar rollout to the final season of Billions. In that, the season premiere will stream early on Paramount+ with Showtime and on demand on August 4, before its linear premiere at 9 PM Sunday, August 6, on Showtime. The 16-episode season will air in two well-separated 8-episode halves.

The Chi is a coming-of-age story that focuses on a group of residents on Chicago's South Side brought together by chance and bound together by a need for connection and redemption. This season's logline tells of big dreams finally being realized but at a cost. Everyone will face immense challenge and face the risks and rewards of their decisions. Emmett (Jacob Latimore) and Kiesha’s (Birgundi Baker) are happy in their blended marriage, but must deal with his insatiable drive to expand Smokey’s and a troubling new business partnership, while Kiesha gets to ascend to a rewarding new career. Douda (Curtiss Cook) copes with the aftermath of Q’s murder and the triggering of shifting loyalties among his friends. Victor’s (Luke James) bold declaration of love for both his new girlfriend and his beloved community will impact his political ambitions. Jada (Yolonda Ross) is now happily married as she continues mentoring Emmett and her best friends as they manage their relationships. Kevin (Alex Hibbert) is honing his gaming skills but struggles with the youthful pitfalls of early independence. Jake (Michael V. Epps) is starting his own business, and Papa (Shamon Brown Jr.) begins to question his faith while falling for an older woman.

Jason Weaver, best known from Smart Guy and as young Simba's singing voice in the original The Lion King, is set to make at least one guest appearance this season after spending season 5 as a regular, promoted from recurring in season 4. The season's other guest stars include basketball player Iman Shumpert, Kandi Burruss, Vic Mensa, Carolyn Michelle Smith, Genesis Denise Hale, Joel Steingold, Judae’a Brown, Miriam A. Hyman, Tyla Abercrumbie, Nia Jervier, L’lerrét Jazelle, Hannaha Hall, Ahmad Ferguson, Tai Davis, Rolando Boyce and Tory O. Davis.  

It comes from 20th Television and is created and executive produced by Lena Waithe of Master of None through her production company Hillman Grad. The company's CEO Rishi Rajani also serves as executive producer. as is rapper Common. Season six showrunners Justin Hillian and Jewel Coronel, as well as Aaron Kaplan (A Million Little Things, The Neighborhood), almost-director of The Flash Rick Famuyiwa, Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone of ID8 Multimedia also serve as EPs.
