Saaaaaalutations! If you thought Paramount+ nabbing Sylvester Stallone to star in Tulsa King said something about what television had become, hear this out: Tulsa King has a New Orleans-set spinoff in development, aptly titled NOLA King , and it’s set to star Samuel L. Jackson. Exact details of NOLA King are under wraps, but Jackson’s character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., has been described as similar to Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi. The series would be set up by a recurring arc in Tulsa King ’s third season, currently in production in Oklahoma and Atlanta, which explains why Variety ’s telling didn’t call the single appearance they implied as a backdoor pilot. Jackson is expected to film his episodes in July, with production on NOLA King looking at a February start. Dave Erickson will be writing the spin-off after previously taking over showrunner duties on Tulsa King starting with this new third season. He is expected to transition fro...
Neil Patrick Harris Confirms 'Uncoupled' Has Paused Filming For The Writers' Strike
Back in February, Showtime picked up Uncoupled, the Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman-created series starring Neil Patrick Harris about four weeks after Netflix canceled it after a single eight-episode season they dropped last July. On a recent visit to The View, Harris gave an update on how production is going, and if you know anything about the last five weeks, it's about as you expect.
Harris revealed while promoting his Hulu series Drag Me to Dinner that, while he is excited to get going filming is likely not starting on time to the July targeted start, as striking writers seek the pay and conditions they deserve from the studio. “Very exciting, we were going to start filming it in the beginning of July but the writers' strike is happening,” he said. “So, everything is sort of on pause — go writers, writers strong. So we’re just going to wait until that plays itself out.”
Uncoupled is about a newly single, abruptly dumped gay man Michael Lawson, played by Harris, navigating the dating scene in Manhattan, which he discovers has changed greatly. He finds himself having to make a necessary change in order to not be single forever. The series also stars Tuc Watkins as Michael's romantic partner of 17 years Colin McKenna, Tisha Campbell as Michael's business partner Suzanne Prentiss, Marcia Gay Harden as Claire Lewis, Michael's wealthy client who was recently left by her husband, as well as Emerson Brooks and Brooks Ashmanskas.
The series will seemingly continue to film in New York when it does resume production, as he remarked, “Hopefully we’ll be able to start filming in warm weather. We filmed Season 1 in cold weather and it’s less fun to have like dating shows where you’re walking down Central Park and like freezing and shivering, [it’s] more fun in a tank top.”
Uncoupled is one of many TV series and films that have paused production, largely if not entirely in support of the striking writers. It's a pretty long list at this point, but as relevant to Paramount networks, there's Evil, The Chi, Yellowjackets, FBI: International, The Really Loud House, Billions, Yellowjackets, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which was among the first, and the Daytime Emmy Awards. In the meantime, the first season of Uncoupled is already on Showtime and Paramount+ with Showtime, departing Netflix at the end of April.
