New 'The Price Is Right' Bob Barker Tribute Special To Air On CBS

It's no surprise, but CBS got right on producing a Bob Barker tribute special, announcing just three days after his death at the age of 99.

The Price Is Right: A Tribute to Bob Barker is an hourlong special that will be hosted by Barker's successor as host of the game show, Drew Carey. It will air this Thursday, August 31 at 8/7c on CBS, and will stream next day archivally on Paramount+. It will feature highlights from Barker’s 50+ year career, including his 35-year stint as The Price Is Right host, starting with first appearance on what was then The New Price Is Right in 1972 to his final episode passing the torch to Carey in 2007.

"This tribute to the legendary Bob Barker will bring back great memories for generations of The Price Is Right fans who loved Bob, his humor, his ability to connect with contestants and his innate talent for making the most out of every moment," said Margot Wain, senior vice president of daytime programs at CBS. “Bob was one-of-a-kind; he'll be remembered as an extraordinary host, a devoted animal activist, and, as he would put it, 'a loyal friend and true.' We're so pleased to be able to salute his many accomplishments and honor his memory in this way."

In his career, Barker won a total of 17 Emmys, including a lifetime achievement award in 1999. However, he was also the subject of a number of lawsuits over his time, including an notorious sexual harassment suit filed by Dian Parkinson in 1994, a model on the game show, alleging a three-year affair with Barker. Other models and employees would sue Barker for such things as wrongful termination and gender discrimination, and be awarded financial settlements out of court.

The network's previous tribute special to Barker, The Price Is Right: A Celebration of Bob Barker's 50 Years In Television, aired in May 2007 and included gameplay. One would hope his post-TPIR life is at least something of a factor in this new special as it would be the newest material available.
