They're Calling Again: 'Frasier' Revival Premiere Date & New Version Of Theme Song Revealed
Kelsey Grammer is ready to croon again. The tossed salads and scrambled eggs are back as Paramount+ finally reveals the premiere date of the revival of Frasier, showcasing new first-look images and giving a new rendition of the iconic theme song. Frasier will return on Thursday October 12 with two episodes, and subsequent episodes will roll out Thursdays thereafter. Internationally, episode premieres are next-day with Friday releases. Whether that's all territories is unknown, as it is unspecified. It is a 10-episode season.
Kelsey Grammer is back as Frasier Crane as he finds himself back in Boston 30 years after heading home to Seattle after the character's original series, Cheers, to start this series's original run. He's got new challenges to face and old dreams to fulfill. According to Deadline, Frasier's son Freddy, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott has roommates not because the housing market sucks, but because Freddy is "entering college". This would mean, based on previously released information, he's giving it another try after dropping out to become a firefighter, which backfired and led to regrets. Freddy was born on Cheers in 1989. He's in his early 30s, not a fresh-faced 18-year-old first-time freshman.
While not as fixed a stay as SEAL Team and FBI Trueas part of CBS's fall schedule impacted by bad-faith negotiations by the AMPTP to both the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA, the network will be doing a “special airing” of the first two episodes, back-to-back, on Tuesday, October 17, beginning at 9:15:8:15c, following a super-sized new episode of Big Brother. The third Paramount+ original that was supposed to be on Mondays is still being determined. It is unknown whether FBI True or FBI will air after the Frasier treat, as this disrupts the previously-set Tuesday arrangement in just its third week. This is a marked change for the character, whose 20 years on linear network television were spent on NBC.
The new season also stars Nicholas Lyndhurst as the boozy professor Alan Cornwall,Jess Salgueiro as Freddy's spontaneous and energetic roommate Eve, and Anders Keith as David Crane, Freddy's cousin and Frasier's nephew, Daphne and Niles's son. There's also Toks Olagundoye, playing Olivia, who is head of the psychology department. Bebe Neuwirth was previously confirmed to be reprising her role as Lilith Sternin, Frasier's ex-wife, guest starring in an episode for Freddy's birthday, and Peri Gilpin will also be back as Roz in a similar capacity.
The revival comes from writers Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli, who executive produce with Grammer, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon. The series is produced by CBS Studios, in association with Grammer’s Grammnet NH Productions. The first two episodes of the new series are directed by James Burrows, who was co-creator, executive producer and director of both previous series Cheers and Frasier, subsequently creating Will & Grace and Dear John. The teaser featuring the new rendition of the theme song can be watched below. Cheers and Frasier's 22 seasons are streaming on Paramount+.
