'Pet Sematary: Bloodlines' Trailer Dogs The Catastrophe Of Death

Jud Crandall knows dead is better. In the upcoming Paramount+ prequel to Stephen King's 1983 novel Pet Sematary, Pet Sematary: Bloodlineswe'll discover how he learned it the first time.

We even see some of it in the trailer, those first encounters with the undead people and pets. He's played by Jackson White here. Bloodlines premieres Friday, October 6, exclusively on Paramount+ in the United States, Canada, Latin America and Brazil, and Saturday, October 7, in the streamer's international markets. The novel was previously adapted into film in 1989 and 2019, in which Crandall was played by Fred Gwynne (best known for playing Herman Munster) and John Lithgow respectively. This prequel does not have a literary counterpart, but the trades cannot figure out or decide which version of the story the film is a prequel to. In addition, the events were alluded to in the story, but never elaborated on or played out in full. It will have its world premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, running from September 21-28.

The official synopsis reads "In 1969, a young Jud Crandall has dreams of leaving his hometown of Ludlow, Maine behind, but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to Ludlow. Banding together, Jud and his childhood friends must fight an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding, and once unearthed has the power to destroy everything in its path."

Starring with White are Lawmen: Bass Reeves's Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, E.T.'s Henry Thomas, whose Netflix miniseries The Fall of the House of Usher recently released its trailer and will premiere two episodes at Fantastic Fest as well, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, and Samantha Mathis, with Pam Grier and Californication and The X Files's David Duchovny. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer from a script by Beer and Jeff Buhler. As previously reported it will be a headliner for new content among Paramount+'s Peak Screaming curated streaming collection for Halloween.
