Paramount+ France Picks Up 'French Roulette – A Mother’s Ordeal'

Paramount+ in France has picked up French Roulette – A Mother’s Ordeal, a limited series from creator Vincent Garenq. The streamer will have the miniseries’s exclusive first-window rights in the country, and has set a December 1 premiere date.

French Roulette – A Mother’s Ordeal is described as a “crime family saga” set in the French Riviera in the 1970s, and inspired by the true story of Renée Le Roux, a former top model and ravenous businesswoman who ran the city’s historical casino and fought against the mafia on her own. After her daughter Agnès went missing, Le Roux began a perilous 40-year battle to get the truth. Michèle Laroque, well-known in the country, plays Le Roux, and stars opposite Yannick Choirat and Marie Zabukovec. The limited series was written by Nicolas Jean, Isabelle Dubernet and Olivier Eloy.

“We are proud to present this premium and glamorous French true crime series from the ’70s, located in Nice, the European Las Vegas at that time,” said Julia Schulte, Senior Vice President of international sales at France TV Distribution, which represents the show internationally. “The strong family drama around the murder of Agnes combined with a thrilling mafia and crime plot is gripping and offers a great piece of entertainment.”

The miniseries is produced by Paris-based production companies La Dame de Coeur and Effervescence Fiction. Judith Naudet, producer at Effervescence, describes the show as having a “thrilling plot, a formidable cast, sets and costumes that bring back to life the glamour of the Riviera in the 1970s.” Naudet added that it showcases an “extraordinary legal case involving passion, betrayal and revenge, against a backdrop of casino wars.”

After French Roulette – A Mother’s Ordeal premieres on Paramount+, the limited series will get a linear run on French public broadcaster France 2 and be available on their digital service France.tv.
