'Criminal Minds' Promotes Ryan-James Hatanaka To Series Regular For 'Evolution' Season 2

Tyler Green will be seen again. Ryan-James Hatanaka, who recurred heavily on the first season of Criminal Minds: Evolution, the sixteenth season of procedural Criminal Minds, has been promoted to series regular as the character for the second and seventeenth season. Production, as previously reported, has already begun.

Tyler Green is a former army intelligence officer who was a mole inside the serial killer network created by UnSub Elias Voit, played by Zach Gilford, who remains a threat in the new season. With that in mind, the BAU takes on Tyler as a consultant, which makes an easy way to increase his presence to series regular-justifying levels. They will be utilizing his psychological operations training as their investigations come up and continue.

Hatanaka’s previous work brought him great acclaim as Dr. Evan Wallace in NBC’s Nurses, and includes him being a regular on Hallmark’s When Hope Calls. His smaller roles include appearances on Chicago PD and MTV’s Eye Candy. As Green, his promotion puts him among the cast that includes fellow stars Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, Joe Mantegna as David Rossi, AJ Cook as JJ Jarreau, Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia, Aisha Tyler as Dr. Tara Lewis, and Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez. Criminal Minds(: Revolution) is aiming to get its next season out on Paramount+ rather quickly.
