Get your toilet meat ready. Actor Jon Hamm, who was most recently seen in Paramount Pictures’ Mean Girls musical movie, is staying in the Paramount family by booking a recurring role in the upcoming Paramount+ series Landman from Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace.
Hamm’s character is Monty Miller, a Texas oil industry titan with a long personal and professional history with lead Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton. The Mad Men actor’s casting is the series’s third major casting announcement in the last couple of weeks, which saw announcements for Demi Moore, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie and Paulina Chávez. It is no doubt as they are spotted showing up for filming currently going on in and around Fort Worth, Texas.
Landman, based on the Boomtown podcast, is set in the famous boomtowns of West Texas. It is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the oil rig business, an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so monumentally reshaping our climate, economy, and geopolitics. The six actors including Hamm have joined Thornton, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, and Jacob Lofland, who were announced before the actors’ strike.
Acclaimed for his Mad Men work, Hamm currently stars in the Fox animated series Grimsburg, which premiered in January and will begin regular premieres on February 18. Lately he’s appeared on the latest seasons of The Morning Show and FX’s Fargo, and returned as Archangel Gabriel in Prime Video’s Good Omens. He’s set to reprise his role as Fred Heckman as scripted podcast/audio drama American Hostage becomes an anthology TV series, and has another series Your Friends and Neighbors upcoming to star as well, executive producing both series.
Landman is executive produced by Sheridan, Wallace, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman and Stephen Kay. Dan Friedkin and Jason Hoch, for Imperative Development LLC, and J.K. Nickell and Megan Creydt, for Texas Monthly, also executive produce. Peter Feldman serves as co-executive producer. It is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions exclusively for Paramount+.
