'Tulsa King''s Garrett Hedlund Is Next To Join 'Bass Reeves'

Ed Speleers may be having a time as Jack Crusher on Star Trek: Picard, but he's not the only Eragon alum hanging around on the mountain.

Garrett Hedlund has been cast in the upcoming series about legendary lawman Bass Reeves coming to Paramount+ from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan. He’ll be playing Garrett Montgomery, a so-called "posse man" of the era who Bass hires for his riding knowledge and his even greater knowledge of the area.

Like Shea Whigham's Col. George Reeves, Montgomery is a recurring guest role. It turns out that is also the case for Dennis Quaid and Grantham Coleman. The series regulars include lead and executive producer David Oyelowo, Lauren E. Banks, Forrest Goodluck, Demi Singleton and Barry Pepper. The series, currently filming in Texas, chronicles Reeves, who worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory. He captured more than 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded, and for it he is considered the greatest frontier hero in American history.

Hedlund is no stranger to Paramount+ nor Sheridan himself, as he stars in Tulsa King with Sylvester Stallone. His next film, The Tutor, releases on March 24, but he might be most familiar to audiences for his roles, aside from Eragon, in the original Friday Night Lights and Tron: Legacy. He recently finished filming Desperation Road and The Marsh King’s Daughter, the latter co-starring Ben Mendelson and Daisy Ridley.
