'1883' And 'Blue's Big City Adventure' Receive Linear Airings In Upcoming Weeks
Two Paramount+ originals, the feature film Blue's Big City Adventure and the western limited series, 1883 are headed to Paramount-owned sister channels over the early summer.
Blue's Big City Adventure, the feature film for the Blue's Clues preschool franchise and more directly connected to its second series Blue's Clues And You!, will premiere on Nickelodeon on Memorial Day, May 29. The film, directed by Matt Stawski, follows the show's host Josh, played by Josh Dela Cruz, who gets the opportunity of a lifetime to audition for Rainbow Puppy’s Broadway musical, and Blue (Traci Paige Johnson) as they skidoo to New York City and learn the importance of following one’s dreams. The film features previous hosts Steve (Steve Burns) and Joe (Donovan Patton) as they meet up in the Big Apple. Originally released on the service on November 18, 2022, it was written by Angela C. Santomero, and given a physical release in March. Our review can be found here. It is assumed it will be a primetime premiere, as Blue's Clues had gotten occasionally in the original run, including "Joe's Surprise Party" and "Meet Blue's Baby Brother", the ladder leading to the premiere of Blue's Room.
1883 meanwhile returns to Paramount Network, having aired its first episode there on its premiere day as a sort of preview. Positioned behind its parent series, ratings juggernaut Yellowstone, it drew 4.9 million viewers. Now, the full limited series will have its chance to air there starting in June. It begins Sunday, June 18 at 8 PM ET/PT, followed by extended featurettes for each episode.
The miniseries stars the Dutton family of the era, consisting of Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Billy Bob Thornton, and Isabel May as they embark on Western expansion through the Great Plains toward the "last bastion of untamed America". It is a stark retelling and an intense study of fleeing poverty to seek a better future in Montana. LaMonica Garrett, Audie Rick, Eric Nelsen, Marc Rissmann, and James Landry Hébert also star.
Subsequent Taylor Sheridan productions Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King, received Paramount Network airings of their first two episodes when they premiered. Maybe they will similarly follow 1883 with full-season runs on linear. The on-air promo for Blue's Big City Adventure's Nickelodeon debutcan be found below.
