Cary Elwes Reveals His Role In 'Knuckles'

A month ago, it was reported that Robin Hood: Men in Tights and The Princess Bride actor Cary Elwes was one of five actors joining the Paramount+ Knuckles spinoff of Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog films. While doing press for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, where he plays Denlinger, he was asked in an interview with The Movie Dweeb (who is not named Phil) what he could tell about the series.

Elwes will play "Pistol" Pete Whipple, presumably the father of Wade Whipple, as Elwes and Wade's actor Adam Pally are about 20 years apart in age in real life gives plenty of leeway for a bigger gap if needed. He's described as rather eccentric. As an apparent 27-time bowling champion, it seems he holds that over his son often enough to be something Wade is failing to live up to as his son. It would make a very probable reason he wants to learn the ways of the Echidna. Elwes also revealed that the series utilizes a mix of animatronics, puppets, and CGI. It's being believed that the practicals will be for vehicles and the robots in addition to stand-ins for the CGI Knuckles.

Elwes stated he very much enjoyed the first two Sonic films. In his now-long career, his most substantial TV role has actually been as a series regular in in The Art of More, a Crackle original that released two seasons of ten episodes in Novembers 2015 and 2016. He apparently appeared in every episode as main character Arthur Davenport. The Knuckles series is currently scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ in the fall.
