Girl You Know It's The Trailer For The Milli Vanilli Documentary

It's been called music's most infamous con, and the haunting story will be told this October on Paramount+. The streamer released a trailer for their exclusive documentary Milli Vanilli, which reevaluates the scandal that turned them into a punchline for more than 30 years.

Milli Vanilli, a Tribeca Film Festival selection, is the story of Robert “Rob” Pilatus and Fabrice “Fab” Morvan whose meteoric rise to pop superstardom came crashing down after it was revealed that they didn’t sing vocals on any of their records. The film is set to include an exclusive audio interview with Pilatus in a rehab clinic conducted two months before he died, never-before-seen archival footage, and interviews with the music industry executives revealing a much grander con with more parties involved than most people believed.

The German-French duo of Rob and Fab went from impoverished upbringings, as the former came from a broken home while the latter escaped an abusive one. Together they developed similar aspirations of stardom. They became global R&B superstars when their first album (for North American audiences) Girl You Know It’s True in 1989 went platinum six times. Their hit single the album was named after sold more than 30 million copies. In 1990, they won the Grammy for best new artist, one they were forced to return as the revelations came out.

The Milli Vanilli documentary streams on Paramount+ beginning Tuesday, October 24, at least in the US, so Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria should probably expect it around then too. It is directed and produced by Luke Korem, who did the latter duties with Bradley Jackson, MRC and Keep on Running Pictures, in partnership with MTV Entertainment Studios.
