Boy do I have a story for you. Michael Peña has joined Paramount+’s upcoming Taylor Sheridan series Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton. His role is currently unknown.
Based on the Boomtown podcast, Landman is set in the famous boomtowns of West Texas. It is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the oil rig business, an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so monumentally reshaping our climate, economy, and geopolitics. Along with Thornton, the series stars Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, Paulina Chávez, and Demi Moore, with Mustafa Speaks, Octavio Rodriguez, J.R. Villarreal, Jon Hamm and Colm Feore recurring. Andy Garcia has been described as a guest star and having a key role. With Peña’s role unknown it means he could fall into any of these classes, meaning it’s important to acknowledge them all.
A TV career that started out with roles in episodes of shows such as Touched by an Angel, 7th Heaven and Moesha, Peña’s series regular roles include FX animated series Chozen, Fox’s Broadchurch remake Gracepoint, season 4 of Prime Video’s Jack Ryan, and as DEA agent Kiki Camarena in season 1 of Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico. In his film career he’s best known for his role as Luis in the Ant-Man movies as well as roles in Crash and American Hustle, but in Paramount circles he’s starred as Cole Marquez, Dora’s dad in Dora and the Lost City of Gold and the Paramount+-original Secret Headquarters, which is no longer available on the streamer.
The series is executive produced by Sheridan, co-creator Christian Wallace, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman and Stephen Kay. Dan Friedkin and Jason Hoch, for Imperative Development LLC, and J.K. Nickell and Megan Creydt, for Texas Monthly, also executive produce. Peter Feldman serves as co-executive producer. It is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions.
