'Evil' Ending After Extended, May-Premiering Season 4

Hallowed be thy name, it seems both CBS series transplanted to Paramount+ to bolster their originals slate will be ending in the year of our lord 2024. Evilstarring Mike Colter, Michael Emerson and Aasif Mandvi, is ending after its fourth season. However, with filming having wrapped last May, the streamer has ordered four episodes to wrap up character stories, bringing season length to 14, and their production is set to begin soon. A season 4 teaser revealing a May premiere date was released Thursday.

Described as “a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion”, Evil stars Colter as Catholic divinity school student David Acosta, a former journalist studying to be a Catholic priest (and achieves such in season 3), Katja Herbers as atheist forensic psychologist Dr. Kristen Bouchard, and Mandvi as technology contractor Ben Shakir, as well as Emerson as Dr. Leland Townsend, and Andrea Martin, Kurt Fuller, Christine Lahti, Brooklyn Shuck, Skylar Gray, Maddy Crocco, and Dalya Knapp. The series debuted on CBS in the 2019-2020 season to great reviews and struggling viewership. It and SEAL Team moved to Paramount+ after the season, likely to bolster the reranded streamer’s slate of originals with season 2 premiering in June 2021 thanks to COVID delays. In November, it was announced that SEAL Team would be ending after seven seasons, with most of the last three having been spent on the streamer.

When production on season 4 initially wrapped earlier than expected in May, it had the optics of being successfully disrupted by the Writers Guild of America strike. However it’s been insisted that production was halted due to an actor’s personal family matter, leaving them unavailable to finish scenes.

“We want to thank Paramount+ for giving us four bonus episodes to end Evil in the world in style,” said Robert and Michelle King, who are the co-creators, showrunners and executive producers of the series. “We will miss this show and cast. In many ways it was a dream project, but sadly evil will outlast Evil. See you in May.” Meanwhile David Stapf, the President of CBS Studios said “It’s hard to underscore the ability of Robert and Michelle King to cleverly craft thought-provoking stories that push creative boundaries time and time again, and Evil is no exception. We’re proud to call them partners, and want to thank them both, Liz Glotzer, the entire cast and the crew for bringing these complex characters to life year after year as we celebrate this final season of Evil.

Meanwhile, it seems Herbers just isn’t ready for the end, tweeting and later deleting “We’re all super sad paramountplus has decided season 4 is our last.” She would then move onto the bargaining stage of grief. “netflix u up? Care to snatch up the goods??” Evil is produced by CBS Studios in association with the Kings’ production company, King Size Productions. They, company executive Liz Glotzer, Rockne S. O’Bannon (known for Alien Nation, SeaQuest DSV, and Farscape) and Sam Hoffman serve as executive producers. Watch the teaser below.
