'Lawmen: Bass Reeves' Confirms November Premiere With New Trailer

Paramount+ has released the teaser trailer for the Bass Reeves-centered first chapter of its Taylor Sheridan-produced Lawmen anthology series. It stars David Oyelowo and is set to premiere on November 5, confirming our earlier tease from the end of the Vanity Fair feature.

The teaser also highlights Donald Sutherland and Dennis Quaid in their starring roles as Judge Isaac Parker and Deputy U.S. Marshall Sherrill Lynn respectively. Parker is described as “an imposing and commanding judge in the Fort Smith Courthouse with a complicated legacy.” Reeves's story also stars Lauren E. Banks as Bass' wife Jennie Reeves, Demi Singleton as their daughter Sally, Forrest Goodluck as the Cherokee Billy Crow, and Barry Pepper as leader of the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles Esau Pierce.

Reeves worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory. He is said to have captured more than 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded, and for it, he is considered the greatest frontier hero in American history. However, the responsibility of the badge weighed heavily on him, constantly wrestling with its moral and spiritual effects on his dear family. The series uses the first two books of The Bass Reeves Trilogy by Sidney Thompson, titled Follow the Angels, Follow the Doves, and Hell on the Border as its basis.

Recurring cast members include Shea Whigham, Garrett HedlundMo Brings Plenty, Justin Hurtt-Dunkley, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Grantham Coleman, Tosin Morohunfola, Margot Bingham, Dale Dickey, and Bill Dawes.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves is created, executive produced, and showrun by Chad Feehan. Oyelowo executive produces with his wife Jessica under their Yoruba Saxon banner, while Sheridan does so through Bosque Ranch Productions. David C. Glasser, David Permut, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and David Hutkin also executive produce, as does Christina Voros, who will also direct five episodes. The series is also produced by MTV Entertainment Studios. Watch the trailer below.
